As discussed in the last article, the number of obese pets in the UK is growing at an alarming rate. As with their human counterparts, there are very serious health implications associated with being overweight: - 1. Overweight animals have a much higher ration of fat (adipose) tissue in relation to the rest of their body. This fat tissue is designed to act as an energy reserve in times of crisis when there is little food available. As our domestic pets are fed regularly, this reserve food store is not needed and so becomes extra weight.  more...

On Wednesday 6th February, year 8 students from Elgar Technology College were given the challenge to put on a Catwalk fashion show as part of their Enterprise Day. The students were given the duration of the school day to design and make outfits and present them as a Catwalk fashion show in front of their year group and staff. Students utilised skills learnt through a variety of subjects to produce creative, innovative designs portrayed through many mediums including a Wedding Scene, Recycling, Rich and Poor and the Best of British. Music, ICT and stage lighting were used to create a high definition and energy filled presentation.  more...

I READ with interest your article in last weeks Malvern Gazette regarding speeding in Upton and Hanley Swan, and would challenge PC Taylor's assertion that "the campaign is working" based on the following: - 1. The highways department recently carried out a speed monitoring survey in Hanley Swan, monitors being placed in three locations Roberts End, outside St Gabriel's Primary School and outside St Gabriel's Church, all of which fall within the 30mph limit. The 85-percentile figure (which takes out the fastest and slowest 15%) showed the average speed to be in excess of 40mph with the highest recorded speeds being between 66 and 71mph.  more...
