USING dendrochronology to date Ledbury's historic Market House worries me greatly. The process can tell you exactly when a tree was grown and, when it was felled, however, it need not lead one to arriving at a date when a building was crafted or, erected. The process is wasteful; it is proposed to take 40 cores from the Market House but just how many of these will be valid in the dating of the building? I understand, if a date can be determined, it may only be accurate within 10 to 15 year period. more...
