OUR Christmas lunch took place in the festively decorated Oak Room at the Stone Manor Hotel where we had a superb variety of starters, main courses and beautifully displayed desserts served to us by the efficient staff. Finishing with coffee and mini mincepies. Cards were distributed and some members gave readings of a humorous and thought provoking nature. The raffle raised £40. All members received a potted cyclamen to take home. A most enjoyable afternoon. more...

LAST Saturday, Claire Heckley held an Ethiopian Christmas Party in Longdon Village Hall. This was an excellent opportunity for Claire to tell us about her very exciting visit to Ethiopia last November as a member of a World Vision delegation. She was able to tell us from first hand experience how our donations were being spent and the amazing difference they were making to the lives of these people. Claire interspersed her talk with some fantastic slides to help us appreciate the life of an Ethiopian today. During the interval we were able to sample some delicious foods, some of which had an Ethiopian flavour. There was also a chance to sponsor a child for World Vision. THE last Sunday of 2007 was marked by a united benefice service of Holy Communion with favourite carols at St Mary's Church, Guarlford. Reverend Sue Irwin, vicar, led the service and dedicated a new lectern bible (revised standard version) in memory of the late Joan Bradshaw. Barbara Hill read the lesson. The church was beautifully decorated with red and white floral decorations with a magnificent tree provided by the Madresfield Estate.
