Past

From the Archives - November 24, 2008

100 Years Ago January 25, 1908 THE neighbourhood of Evesham suffered with other districts from the thick and penetrating fog during the early part of the week, much to the discomfort of the inhabitants. The fogs were remarkable from the fact that they affected some districts; one could stand in one part of the street and be practically free from fog, while within a few yards it hung over the ground like a pall. A Worcester contemporary gives the following incident as conclusive evidence of the thickness of the fog: "So thick was the fog last night that all the cabmen in Worcester were walking their horses, some of them leading the animals by the head." To our mind it would have been much more incontrovertible testimony of the density of the atmosphere if the cabmen had been leading their horses by the tail.  more...
