The Old Plough, Longdon, is in between the worst flood affected areas, although thankfully we were not flooded ourselves. Our business has been seriously affected though because of the lack of access from the M5 and also due to guests who have cancelled for various reasons. We understand why guests would not want to visit the area at this time as there is a severe water shortage and many attractions are closed due to flooding, however everyone is working tremendously hard to get things back to normal and there is no doubt the area will bounce back from this crisis.  more...

I left work in Stroud at 6pm on Friday, July 20, and managed, with difficulty in a small car, to negotiate Gloucester, Maisemore, Corse etc, the M5 being blocked solid, when I arrived at the southern end of Longdon at 8.30pm. After trying to find a route northwards back to Malvern via the Ledbury or Tewkesbury areas, I was forced to give up and call at the Hunters Inn, Buckbury, to get out of the rain.  more...

100 years ago Mr Arthur C Nott has recently opened a cafe at his grocery and provision establishment in Church Street. The cafe, which is situated on the ground floor, is not of very large dimensions, but it has been equipped in such a manner as to ensure the greatest possible comfort. The apartment is fitted with electric light and is delightfully cool. The furnishing has been carried out in oak, in antique style. So arranged is the cafe that is can be shut off entirely from the grocery department. Afternoon teas and ices are provided at popular prices and Mr Nott may expect extensive patronage. The fair is the first test for a new group looking to rejuvenate the town centre but was postponed because of the floods. High Street UK - Great Malvern, is a project set up by residents, traders and supporters of the town, backed by the Civic Trust. A HOST of summer events have fallen victim to the terrible weather - but there is one still standing. The Malvern Music Experience, taking place at the Three Counties Showground on Friday, August 17, and Saturday, August 18, will be a celebration of Britain's best. Paying homage to Liverpool's most famous exports will be the Bootleg Beatles and performing a programme dedicated to Sir Edward Elgar will be the Malvern-based English Symphony Orchestra. It is not exaggerating to call the Bootleg Beatles one of the world's most successful tribute bands. The concert will culminate with a fireworks display and cannon fire from the 214 (Worcestershire) Battery Royal Artillery. Gates open on Friday at 5.30pm.
