How to complain

MEMBERS of the public who want to complain about public services, have difficulty knowing who to complain to, and how, according to a new report.Released by the Local Government Ombudsman, Tony Redmond, the local partnerships and citizen redress report points out the matter "needs to be addressed urgently" and that councils often: "do not have proper, clear procedures and protocols for handling these complaints." In the report the ombudsman calls for clarity regarding accountability, with a clear statement as to who is responsible for handling complaints, and also makes suggestions on how governance processes could be improved, to help local authorities improve their services to the public. Hugh Bennett, assistant chief executive of Bromsgrove District Council, said: "We recognize the issue and are currently implementing a customer feedback, complaints system. We will take into account the findings of this report as part of its development."  more...
