Why do we need a new memorial?

SIR - I am puzzled as to why there is thought to be a need for a new' memorial to the brave men of the Worcestershire Regiment in the park which already bears the name of their heroic action at Gheluvelt? If there were any need to add to the site, perhaps a covered area explaining the details of the action would be appropriate, so that schoolchildren (and interested adults) could study those events in all weathers? It would also greatly enhance the facilities for any local family history events.  more...

Flood cash

BROMSGROVE District Council has received a share of new government funding for flood affected victims. Announced by Communities Secretary Hazel Blears last Friday, Bromsgrove has been allocated £20,000 of the £6.2m government flood package. Overall 36 local authorities have received a share of the government money, with Wychavon District Council, which covers Droitwich, receiving £600,000. The money is to be used to support the recovery work of local authorities in flood-hit areas and is designed to help vulnerable individuals and families. A spokesman for Bromsgrove District Council said: "We were not affected as badly as some areas so the funding will be discussed at a meeting, where it will be decided how best to spend the money and help the people affected by the floods."  more...

Nursery deal

AN Aston Fields nursery has been taken over by a national nursery provider, it was announced last week. Leapfrog Day Nursery, in Stoke Road, Bromsgrove, has become part of the biggest nursery company in the UK, Busy Bees Childcare Ltd. The deal is part of the acquisition of 88 nurseries and is worth an estimated £31.2 million. The two storey Bromsgrove nursery offers rooms designed specifically for babies, toddlers and preschoolers.  more...

FLORAL ART CLUB - Area demonstrator and club member Joan Southerton entertained the audience on July 30 with some flower arrangements that all represented "Jewels of the Forest". The forest being Wyre Forest her first arrangement had flowers of blue and yellow in a tub made from banana spades around a tree made on the spot. Filling a mesh frame balanced on a carpet spool rescued from the redundant carpet factory with colourful roses, freesias and cala lilies to represent a carpet design, the canals were remembered with an arrangement flowing from a typical canal barge scuttle.  more...
