Reference

BROMSGROVE library, in Stratford Road, Bromsgrove, is running a Mastermind quiz to help library users understand its internet reference resources. The online resources include Oxford Reference titles, such as the Grove Dictionary of music and other specialist reference items, newspaper files and citizen advice notes for legal and rights issues. Many of these can be accessed on a home or work computer through the county council's 24 hour library webpage at www.worcestershire.gov.uk, following the online reference books and newspapers link. Entry forms for the competition, in which a book token could be won, can be picked up from the library.  more...

Arts meeting

WORCESTERSHIRE County Council held a special meeting to look at the future of its arts service. Around 50 representatives from arts providers around the county attended the session, which was held at Worcester Rugby Club, with various presentations being made including how the county council wants to combine its adult and children's arts services. Debbie Birch, acting head of cultural services, said people were also pleased that the county arts officer role will be reinstated as "they wanted arts to be recognised for its own sake." Councillors will now consider the proposals made.  more...
