He is responsible for decisions on closures and criteria of distances people should have to travel to use a post office. A CAR boot sale is being held in Barnt Green to raise cash for the village scouts and guides rebuild fund. Volunteers are inviting enthusiasts to book a place on the scout and guide field, off Blackwell Road, by contacting Mike or Val on 0121 445 3907. The event, on Saturday, July 14, from 10am to 2pm, is being held three years after the scout HQ at Barnt Green was destroyed by arsonists. From that date fund raising has been intense and volunteers hope to get the new building started later this year, despite a shortfall in funds.  more...

THE work of Bromsgrove District Council was praised by the minister for local government after the authority won a national communications award at a ceremony in Birmingham. The district council scooped bronze in the internal communications heat and went on to receive the second bronze of the night for its overall implementation of the reputation project. The national project sets out five key areas for councils to help them communicate with their customers more effectively. Minister Phil Woolas MP said: "At a time when general expectations are rising about what public services should offer, it is important that local authorities get their communications right."  more...

PRIMROSE Hospice holds its annual summer fete this Saturday in St Goldwald's Road, Bromsgrove. The fete begins at 1pm and will be opened by Malcolm Boyden, of BBC Hereford & Worcester. There will be a host of activities including stalls, a bouncy castle, barbecue, bar and a chance to learn circus skills. Music will be provided by The Billington Family and there will be dance demonstrations from the Lyntone Dancers and the Castoff Appalachian step dance team.  more...

History on the move

HISTORY came to Catshill Middle School when pupils enjoyed a visit from the Museum on the Move bus. Year five visited the bus during the day and explored the exhibition, which looks at the way we lived in the 1970s. One year in particular, 1977, was discussed looking at the Queen's jubilee, the death of Elvis Presley, the first Star Wars film, platform shoes and space hoppers. The bus, from Hartlebury Museum, also taught children aspects of home life.  more...
