Officer dismissed

A SENIOR officer at Bromsgrove District Council has been dismissed. He is Robbie Hazlehurst, who for several years was the authority's head of culture and community services at Burcot Lane. His dismissal follows an internal disciplinary procedure which was invoked in mid May and follows his subsequent appeal. In a brief statement yesterday (Tuesday) the council said: "A politically proportionate sub-committee of members has upheld the council's original decision to dismiss a head of service." No reason for his sacking has been given.  more...

BROMSGROVE children will be going football crazy with a host of soccer camps run by Birmingham City Football Club. The summer holiday camps, at Bromsgrove School, in Worcester Road, will give boys and girls the chance to improve footballing skills, while keeping fit and meeting new friends. Run by qualified coaches, children showing promise will be recommended for the club's academy. BUSINESSES and working carers are being urged by Carers UK to sign up to a new national campaign to give carers the same rights to tax-free vouchers for additional support as working parents have for childcare costs. In the West Midlands more than 243,000 people balance work with caring for an elderly or disabled family member or friend. The voucher system would enable carers in employment to buy in a range of accredited extra services to help them manage their caring responsibilities. It would include services such as additional home care, gardening, chiropody, shopping trips and other daily activities.  more...
