How to find out about working with children

From the Worcester News, first published Wednesday 6th Jun 2007.

PEOPLE in Worcestershire who want to work with children can find out more with a free programme organised by the county council.

The Choices programme provides information on careers available to people who want to work with children, young people and their families.

Details will be available at this year's Every Child Matters careers fair, which takes place on Thursday, June 14.

Rachael Oakley, recruitment officer at the county council, said: "This is a great opportunity for Worcestershire people to learn about a possible future career, all completely free of charge.

"There are so many benefits to working with children, young people and their families, not least the personal satisfaction of being in a rewarding job. People may be surprised at the number of options available and this should make them more aware of the career path that would best suit them.

"The feedback we have received from people who attended the Choices programmes has been positive and people have gone on to enjoy working with children."

The programme covers the range of employment opportunities available, provides practical information from people working in the sector and gives advice on training. It also identifies the next steps for people who decide they want a career with children.

The free 12-hour introductory session is available at different venues throughout Worcestershire, details of which are available by visiting www.

Anyone who is interested can also visit the stand at the Every Child Matters careers fair, organised by the Worcester News in association with the county council's Family Information Service, at the Fownes Hotel, City Walls Road, Worcester, where a variety of organisations will be on hand to provide information and advice.
