In the saddle to raise funds

From the Worcester News, first published Wednesday 6th Jun 2007.

TWO Worcester men are hoping to clock up the pounds as they clock up nearly 1,000 miles during a charity bike ride.

Mark Snape and his brother-in-law Chris Jones are in a four-man team aiming to be in the saddle for about 10 days as they take on the 965 miles from John O'Groats to Land's End.

Mr Snape, a 40-year-old heating engineer and plumber from Lower Wick, and Mr Jones, a caravan sales manager from Holt Heath, are hoping for the ride of their lives and are aiming to raise about £4,000 for Acorns Children's Hospice in Worcester.

Mr Snape only started cycling seriously a year ago in order to get fit for skiing.

"We will be doing about 100 miles a day from Scotland to Cornwall.

"It is going to be a long drawn out 10 days. I am a bit worried about the wind and the rain," he said.

Anyone who wishes to sponsor the cyclists, who started their charity ride on Tuesday, June 5, can call the Acorns fund-raising office on 01386 554848.
