Echoes from the Past

100 years ago ALTHOUGH open spaces are richly abundant in Malvern, facilities for the playing of games by the mulititude are not too plentiful. The various commons dotted about the place are the chief resort for this purpose. There is little level ground among the switchbacks of the Link Common, but any portion offering reasonable possibilities of cricket is quickly seized upon. The games played under these circumstances are hardly of the fast and furious description. The ground is a little too hilly for that. Nevertheless, a good share of enjoyment is obtainable. Of course, there is a commotion among the sheep sometimes if the batsmen should happen to collar the bowling. Malvern Gazette, June 21, 1907.  more...
