Bishop Trophy 8-a-side Pairs Cricket

COLWALL U11S v WORCESTER NOMADS U11S

COLWALL completed their first round Bishop Trophy matches with a win over Worcester Nomads, maintaining their 100 per cent record, enabling them to finish as group winners after securing six successive victories.

Batting first, Colwall raced to 292, top scorers were Freddie Coleman (27) and Ben Cooke (24), well supported by useful contributions from Jono Gooch (10), Joe Watts (9) and both Harry Bee and Bryan Leighton (8).

Colwall's bowlers exerted pressure on Nomads' batsmen from the first over. Oli Warrilow took two wickets in a fine spell of controlled spin bowling while Leighton took one wicket for one run in his two overs which also produced a run-out. Joe Watts also chipped in with a wicket and miserly bowling from Jono Gooch and brother Michael, supported by Bee and Cooke, saw Nomads finish on 249, a winning margin of 43.

Colwall move into the second round full of confidence and looking forward to the challenges ahead.

WORCESTER NOMADS U12S A v RUSHWICK U12S

WORCESTER Nomads captain Tom Webb won the toss and elected to bat first. Heron bowled a lively opening spell removing Webb for two.

Neils Emmerson (14) and James Cooper (13) then produced some scintillating shots putting on 30 for the second wicket. Harry Williams (30ret) and Ali Hunt (31ret) then put on 50 for the 4th wicket.

Wickets then started to tumble as the Nomads batsmen chased a huge total. After the allotted 20 overs Nomads finished on 150-7 with Ryan Gwilliam and Robert Wootton scoring 20 for the eighth wicket.

Rushwick started their innings struggling against the bowling of Ali Hunt( 0-9 off three overs). They started to accelerate the run rate, but could not master the Nomads attack. Andy Woodyatt, Ben Rattue and Reece Lane all bowled tight spells restricting Rushwick to 113-2 off their 20 overs, giving Nomads victory by 37 runs.

Tom Badger and Andy Woodyatt took a wicket each. Hunt (31ret) Dilley (23) and Heron (15no) shone for Rushwick.

COLWALL CAVALIERS U13S v BROMYARD U13S

BROMYARD U13s continued their improvement as they defeated Colwall Cavaliers by seven wickets at The Downs on Sunday morning, the U13s first win in two years.

Batting first, Colwall were restricted to 100-6 in their 20 overs, B Huxley (32no), S Wilson (26) and J Crichard (16) leading the way, John Parker taking 2-11 off three overs for Bromyard.

In reply, John Parker (6) and George Godsall got Bromyard off to a good start in the face of the preternaturally quick 12-year-old paceman Joe Crichard. The score had reached 33 before Parker was bowled, but Godsall and Nick Coleman continued to take the attack to the home side, Godsall racing to 31 off just 29 balls with six fours before retiring.

A couple of quick wickets temporarily put Bromyard on the back foot, Alex Farmers being stumped for nought and Nick Dent caught for six, having dispatched his first ball for a maximum, but Coleman (20no off 23 balls with three fours) saw his side home after 15.2 overs, as Bromyard finished on 101-3.

BROMYARD U13S v ROSS COMETS U13S

BROMYARD U13s put up a much improved showing on Sunday morning versus top of the table Ross Comets, but eventually lost by eight wickets with seven balls remaining.

Batting first on the artificial wicket at the QE High School, George Godsall (11) and John Parker (23) put on 55 for the first wicket, before a late flurry from Nick Dent (17no) enabled Bromyard to finish on 108-4 off their 20 overs.

In reply, Ross were in trouble before D Brooke hit 30 (retired) off just 25 balls and with D Peacock (16no) and J Tumelty (12no) both scoring at a run a ball, Ross reached their target of 109 for the loss of two wickets in the penultimate over.

The Bromyard U11s also went down to defeat against Ross Comets, their first loss in two years, but lie second in the Eastern Division and still have an excellent chance of making the county final.
