Nomads Seconds fall well short

From the Malvern Gazette, first published Thursday 21st Jun 2007.

WORCESTER II v WORCESTER NOMADS II

WORCESTER Nomads Seconds travelled to Worcester in Division One 2nd XIs of the Worcestershire County League.

Worcester Nomads, sponsored by Hylton Group and Duncan Fearnley, Worcester, lost by 73 runs.

After winning the toss, Andy Leach asked Worcester to bat on a damp but drying wicket. After making a good start in the opening overs, the Nomadsbowlers pegged back the Worcester batsmen and wickets started to fall. At 59-4, Nomads were on top of their opposition.

Cook (74) and Brown (69) then batted sensibly and picked up the scoring rate. With a late flourish and some suspect fielding, Worcester amassed a creditable total of 281-9 from their allotted overs.

The Nomads bowlers Lloyd (3-66) and Chatfield (3-81) were the main wicket takers.

In reply, Nomads scored quickly and were always in with a shout of recording a victory. However, regular wickets prevented any batsmen from developing an innings and the visitors fell short, being bowled out for 208. Ormerod (38) and D Sanders (36) were highest scorers. M Potter bowled tightly to claim 6-50.

WORCESTER NOMADS III v AMBLECOTE

NOMADS Thirds got back to winning ways with a seven-wicket victory over visitors Amblecote on Saturday.

Amblecote were dismissed for 155 from 40 overs.

Gregory (74), Smart (29) and Moore (22) made most of the runs for the visitors with four spin bowlers, Madzarevic 2-42, North 2-45, Beazley 2-50, and Pearson 4-13 making the most of a turning wicket.

In reply, Nomads struggled to make inroads early on, but Madzarevic (62) and Pearson (64no) helped bring 20 points to go clear at the table top.
