Hanley Swan Pre-School Playgroup would like to thank all the crew at Upton Fire Station for sparing their time last Wednesday morning to show us their fire station. This was part of the "People who help us" topic for this term and 18 children had a wonderful time pretending to be Firefighters. They thoroughly enjoyed squirting water and being shown all the equipment on and inside the fire engine.  more...

IN response to Coun Chris Cheeseman (Your Letters, June 8), we are happy for those and "their real world thinking" who do not feel vulnerable or insecure about the location of a non-secure Mental Health Unit for 17 men within the village of Malvern Wells opening in September 2007. Echoes from the Past

100 years ago Whilst playing with his schoolmates on Tuesday, close to the railings at the top of Trinity Bank, Sidney Brewer, the nine-year-old son of Mr and Mrs Brewer, Lygon Arms, met with a mishap. He fell under the railings into the slope below, a distance of several feet, and dislocated his elbow. He was conveyed to the hospital and was attended by Dr Joshua. He still remains there and we are pleased to learn he is progressing satisfactorily. Malvern Gazette, June 14, 1907.  more...

A TEAM from the town is revving up for Worcester's first Soap Box Cart Challenge event this Sunday. There are now 11 teams taking part, including Droitwich Youth Club. Event co-ordinator Roger Blackburn said: "All the teams have been hard at work since the spring designing and building their carts. Now they are all gearing up to push the cart as fast as they can around a 500m course on the footpaths around County Hall all timed to the second! It's set to be a great day."
