ROCK `N' ROLL: ONE OF THE BEST

From the archive, first published Friday 3rd Mar 2006.

BLUES-rockers The Hamsters are set to make a welcome return to Worcester this month for a concert at the city's Huntingdon Hall.

Now in their 20th year together, the band has performed some 3,500 concerts and are still going strong, having built up a solid reputation over their years together.

The trio brings together `Slim' on guitar, `Zsa Zsa' on bass and `Otis' on drums and have previously been voted one of the best unsigned bands by Kerrang! magazine.

Over the years they have performed with the likes of Eric Clapton and Alison Moyet and in summer 2004 they took to the stage with Status Quo to perform at a series of open-air concerts.

Although primarily performing their own unique brand of material, the band are also widely regarded as the leading interpreters of the music of Jimi Hendrix and, more recently, ZZ Top.

No strangers to Worcester, they are back at Huntingdon Hall on Thursday, March 9, at 8pm.

Tickets are priced £12.50. Call the venue box office on 01905 611427 for details.

BOURBON'S HEADY MIX

WATCHING his fingers lightly pick the strings of his guitar is akin to seeing a dancer gliding gracefully across a stage.

Now audiences in Worcester can judge Claude Bourbon's musical abilities for themselves as the prolific acoustic blues performer visits for a gig this weekend.

Captured elegantly in the stagelights with just his guitar and voice for company, Claude blends together influences from around the world including eastern and western folk to

create a musical cocktail. The singer was inspired to pick up the guitar at the age of 15 when he heard an instrumental version of The Animal's House Of The Rising Sun and now plays about 100 gigs a year.

Touching on everything from blues to rock, jazz, or pieces that cannot be labelled, his music is best experienced live.

The French-born singer can be caught at the Marr's Bar in Worcester's Pierpoint Street on Sunday, March 5. Tickets are £4 in advance or £5 on the door.
