RECENTLY, following a fall in our house, my wife was taken to the A and E Department of Cheltenham Hospital by a very quick and efficient ambulance. SIR - Your interesting old picture of a flock of sheep being driven through Worcester city streets may well have been taken in Victorian times but it was a common enough occurrence when I was a lad. The men driving them usually had sticks with which they beat stragglers while dogs yapped at their heels. I must have been about seven years old when I interrupted my teacher to tell her this while she was giving a scripture lesson about good shepherds and how kind they were to their charges. VILLAGE PLAN AND DESIGN STATEMENT: The drop-in day at the village hall last Saturday prompted a good response from residents. A number of village organisations had put great effort into producing displays of their activities and their interest in the village's future. Members were on hand to give further details of the various activities and members of the parish council including chairman Clive Allen were present to answer questions, as was John Redman, chairman of the village hall management committee, Peter Oliver, chairman of the village plan committee, giving his views on the day's success, spoke of the sensible answers and comments he had found on examining the questionnaires which were handed out during the day.   more...

NAIGHT CLUB: Next Tuesday will be the 20th anniversary of the opening of the centre by The Princess Royal and coffee and biscuits will be served to visitors between 10.30am and 11.30am. The club (formerly Centre for the Handicapped - North Cotswold) was opened in 1986 following a long campaign by local supporters to raise money to provide a purpose-built centre. Twenty years later it continues to thrive and provide free facilities and activities every Tuesday for people of all ages with any sort of physical impairment. However, as the present committee of trustees and volunteers gets older, new blood would be welcomed and drivers for the minibus-ambulance are also needed, one Tuesday a month from 8.30am to 10.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm.
