A MUSIC group is treating audiences in Redditch to a performance from a well-known musician as part of a tour around the region.

The award-winning Birmingham Contemporary Music Group (BCMG) will perform at Kingsley Theatre this Sunday, featuring percussionist Adrian Spillett, BBC Young Musician of the Year 1998.

BCMG is offering the concert as its

regular series of free hour-long taster performances in small venues across Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire, culminating in two full evening concerts in May.

Each event includes informal introductions, world-class performances and the chance to meet the composers and performers over refreshments.

Adrian Spillett (pictured) was the first ever percussionist to win the BBC Young Musician of the Year title in 1998. Dubbed the "Noel Gallagher of the percussion world", Adrian graduated from music college six years ago and has gone on to performance around the world.

For BCMG he will perform Okho, an extravaganza of African drums composed by Iannis Xenakis, as well as Match, a musical tennis game for two cellos and percussion, and the dance-inspired Suite for Delicate.

Audience members are invited to stay for refreshments afterwards and to meet Adrian and composer Howard Skempton.

Tickets are free but it is recommended to book in advance through Kingsley Theatre on 830731 or through BCMG on 0121 616 2616.
