WORCESTER Wanderers maintained their good form with a 25-20 win against Coventry Marconi.
Wanderers thrashed the Coventry team 22-7 in September but they were less dominant in the early stages this time out.
They did take the lead on 20 minutes after a strong run by winger Andy Hearn led to an unconverted try.
Marconi responded within five minutes with a penalty, which closed the gap between the sides to two points.
The response from Wanderers was to raise their game and, minutes later, centre Ryan Henshaw added a second try with stand-off Joph Young sweetly kicking over the conversion to take the score to 12-3 at half-time.
Within two minutes of the re-start, Young kicked another penalty and provided Wanderers with a 12-point cushion.
Marconi dug deep and, despite being under pressure, responded five minutes later with a converted try to bring the game within range.
Wanderers were galvanised by this and, after a passage of play between the backs, winger Chris Jenkinson ran in a try to stretch the gap and Young converted to bring the tally to 22-10.
Marconi were not daunted and raised their game but Wanderers responded and held them at bay until the 65th minute, when a converted try brought their opponents to within five points.
Worcester's pressure earned them a penalty, which Young made no mistake with.
There were only ten minutes left to play when Marconi slotted a three-pointer.
But Worcester stayed strong and denied the home team any further opportunities to win.
Meanwhile, Wanderers Seconds were beaten 35-17 by Bridgnorth in a friendly match.
Wanderers Vets managed a 40-10 victory at Droitwich Vets.
Meanwhile, Upton were left to kick their heels on Saturday after Tenbury were unable to fulfil their league fixture because of illness and injuries.
