WORCESTER Colts reached the semi-finals of the National Colts Plate with a 12-11 victory at Northampton Old Scouts.
Playing into a strong wind in the first-half, Worcester had a decent amount of possession but turned 11-0 down.
In the second-half Worcester played a territorial game, utilising driving, rolling mauls, pick and drive and the accurate boot of Sean Walker to put them into attacking positions.
Worcester pressure earned a penalty in front of the Northampton posts inside the `22' but they elected to run the ball and were rewarded with an excellent try scored by Dale Garner, which was converted by Matt Williams.
The game then became a battle between Worcester's pressure and Northampton's resolute defence. The breakthrough came when Sean Earlem found himself over the Northampton line following a Worcester driving maul, but the conversion was missed by Matt Williams.
Meanwhile, three Midlands players have again been named in the England Under 16 senior squad for a training session in Weston-super-Mare.
Scrum-half Oliver Frost (Bishop of Here-ford Bluecoat School and North Midlands), was among those who took part in a training camp at Castlecroft in Wolverhampton.
Number eight Luke Yarranton (Bishop of Hereford Bluecoat School) is among seven Midlands players named in the England Under 16 A squad.
