He should focus on local problems

From the archive, first published Tuesday 14th Mar 2006.

SIR - "Worcester deserves better" declared Stephen Inman, the city council leader, who took an exception to Mike Foster for not voting on recent important issues at the Commons (Worcester News, February 17).

In the article, Mr Foster explained that he was "paired" with another opposition member of parliament. In essence therefore, the other opposition member did not vote on these important issues either.

The council leader will serve the city best, if he focuses his energy over the various local problems, such as autumn leaves that are left to rot and turn into sludge in adverse weather on our pavements. Then there are blocked road drains, badly maintained streetlights, roundabouts with overgrown vegetation, lack of public conveniences and beautiful healthy trees, felled to make room for more car-parking spaces.

L SPITERI,

Worcester.
