UNWANTED pets that found themselves homeless over Christmas have been given a second chance, thanks to a successful Worcester News campaign.
The Twelve Dogs Of Christmas appeal highlighted the plight of abandoned animals being cared for by Danemere Animal Rescue, in Tibberton, near Droitwich.
Following the appeal, not only have 11 of them found new owners, a further 13 dogs, 21 cats and many other smaller animals have also been rehomed.
Danemere kennel supervisor Dave Lannie confirmed the campaign had been a huge success.
He said: "We've been inundated with people coming in to view the dogs. Some were reserved the day they went in the paper."
The only dog of the 12 not to be re-homed is George, a blind German shepherd cross who was found in a distressed state, wondering the city streets after being abandoned.
This determined chap has bounced back from his ordeal and amazed staff with how well he has coped.
Mr Lannie said he would love to find someone with the time and patience care for George.
"He's a affectionate, gentle dog that loves going on walks," he said.
"He is a very healthy, happy chap and never mopes around."
Mr Lannie added that George was good with other dogs, was well trained and would settle in to a new home very quickly once he knew where everything was.
"He is very capable and gets around very well using his other senses," he added.
"I also believe that he can detect shapes and shadows."
Since the appeal, the centre has received a further 20 stray dogs abandoned after Christmas.
For information about George, or any of the other animals call Danemere on 01905 345655.
