Sound of three cellos in parish

From the archive, first published Thursday 23rd Feb 2006.

THE unusual but delightful sound of three cellos will be heard at the Parish Music concert in Alstone Church on Saturday, March 4.

The Oxford Cello Trio, Jacqueline Johnson, Katherine Sharman and Venetia Kay will play music arranged for three cellos, including pieces by Bach, Ligeti, Barriere, Cassado, de Falla and Paladilhe.

Jacqueline Johnson played for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and gave chamber recitals in the Far East.

Now based in Oxfordshire, she plays in the Bonicci Quartet and teaches.

Katherine Sharman, from New Zealand, also now lives in Oxfordshire and plays in many national chamber orchestras.

Venetia Kay, formerly a member of NYO, started professional life as an actress but now teaches and performs in chamber groups around Oxfordshire.

The concert starts at 8pm and tickets cost £7 at the door.
