GEORGE, the blind German shepherd cross who was the last remaining dog in a Worcester News campaign featuring animals abandoned over Christmas, has found a home.
The good-natured mongrel has won over the hearts of Barbara and Peter Smith, who live near Pershore.
They visited him at Danemere Animal Rescue, Tibberton, near Droitwich, and were immediately won over.
George was featured twice in the Worcester News. The first time the Smiths saw
him they decided that because they already had two
other dogs they could not
take him in. But when he appeared a second time they were persuaded to go and see him at Danemere.
"As soon as we saw him we wanted to take him home," said Mrs Smith.
She said that despite his blindness, he was now making himself at home and getting along well with their other dogs, Jess and Lucy.
The Worcester News 12 Dogs Of Christmas campaign aimed to find homes for animals abandoned over the holidays. Eleven were housed fairly quickly but George, because of his blindness, was overlooked. Determined to find him the loving home he deserved, we featured him again. And this time the Smiths were moved to help.
George has had to have an operation on an eye ulcer, but is recovering well and settling into life at his new home.
Mrs Smith said: "He has been absolutely wonderful.
"We are so happy with him and love him to pieces. He is so affectionate and gentle.
"We give him a treat in the morning and he takes it so carefully from your hand."
She said George had not let his sight problems hold him back, walking up to eight miles each day.
"We've been absolutely delighted with him. He is always first at the door, waiting to go for a walk."
George was discovered wondering the streets of Worcester in a distressed state after being abandoned.
