Re-branded store takes on 15 staff

SHOPPERS in the Faithful City are set to benefit from a new supermarket in the city centre.

The former Kwik Save store in Angel Street, Worcester, is re-opening as Somerfield and the conversion has created 15 new jobs in the city.

The refurbishment cost more than £800,000.

On Wednesday, staff from Acorns Children's Hospice, based in Bath Road, Worcester, will cut the ribbon and declare the store officially open for business.

Customers will be able to join in the party atmosphere on the day when a roving DJ will play shopper's requests and hand out prizes including £100 of Somerfield vouchers. A town crier will also be in town to spread the word.

The store has been completely refurbished and includes a new bakery and a rotisserie for hot chicken.

Store manager Jon Wil-liams said: "We're really pleased with our new store and I'm confident that our customers will be delighted with the improvements. Somerfield is committed to offering all shoppers want without the hassle of being a large supermarket."

The nationwide chain was named Fresh Produce Retailer of the Year in 2005.

The Worcester building stands on the site of the former Theatre Royal. The theatre was popular during the 18th century but fell in to disrepair and was demolished in the 1950s.
