SIR - Field of dreams - the perfect site? I read with interest your front page story about the latest on Christopher Whitehead Language College. It is shameful that Mike Foster used this issue to make political gain. I would like to remind him that it was his government that promised £12m for the rebuilding of the school before the General Election only to withdraw that offer afterwards.

SIR - I almost choked on my toast listening to our beloved Prime Minister Tony Blair! He rants on and on about the United Kingdom having the fourth richest economy in the world. If this is the case then why are our senior citizens at the bottom of the pensions league throughout the European Community? Why are council taxes going through the roof above inflation? Tony Blair and his government need to join the real world.

SIR - Where does Jim Evans (Letters, January 31) get the quaint notion that if you don't praise Labour you are obviously a Tory? Mrs Thatcher showed her contempt for pensioners by breaking the earnings link. Gordon Brown continued with his derisory 75p per week "rise" for pensioners.

SIR - What on earth is the BBC thinking about by taking off Radio 4's UK theme? Without that I won't know when to get up. Let's hope they don't take off their closing down tune - Sailing By. If they do that, I won't know when to go to bed, and this will get me all confused.
