SIR - The current system of residential wardens must not be allowed to cease. These wardens have always acted above and beyond the call of duty. They deserve gongs -
not the threat of losing their jobs.
I recall one instance of a new tenant arriving with his few possessions in a carrier bag, only to be warmly greeted by the warden who provided bedding, furniture and provided some dignity for this person. I wonder what would have happened if no warden was available.
They have always acted as a link for health visitors, care workers, as well as other professionals.
Given that many tenants, thinking of their old age, gave up houses and neighbours to live in these schemes with full-time resident wardens, it cannot be right to take them away.
