Stewart and Matthew Keyte, practise their dragon skills as youngsters from Norton Pre-School in Littleworth, near Norton, celebrate Chinese New Year by dressing up in traditional Chinese clothes and tucking into food eaten in the Orient. The three and four-year-olds cooked noodles and spring rolls and then had fun eating them using chopsticks. The idea came from teacher Alison Griffins, who hand-made a dancing dragon, smaller than the traditional ones used by adults, for the children to decorate and then use.   more...

50 years ago February 4, 1956

THE women's section of Lickey British Legion held its annual dinner. A total of 50 attended and for the first time, husbands and friends, including many representatives of the men's branch, were invited to join the party. Messrs John and Wallace Russell sang a selection of duets accompanied by Mrs Colley on the piano. Monty Banks also entertained with his conjuring.   more...

25 years ago January 30, 1981

A CENTURY of Bromsgrove history fell to the bulldozers as the 19th century almshouses in Stratford Road were demolished. The homes fell to the contractor's hammer after nearly a year's controversy. The almshouses were built in 1883 by the trustees of Bromsgrove Consolidated Charities and funded by the sale of The Poors Farm in Blackwell.   more...

Precious guitar stolen

A GUITAR worth more than £500 was stolen from a garage near Wythall. The black Fender 1972 Telecaster was stolen from the building in Heycott Grove, Walker's Heath, between 4pm last Tuesday and 10am the next day. DC Mark Carter, from Wythall CID, said: "We know these guitars are highly regarded and would be easily recognisable by anyone within the trade or with an interest in music. Studley's egg-throwers are sought

THUGS threw eggs at houses and shops in Studley at the weekend. Village police are appealing for help in catching the culprits who targeted the village hall in High Street and houses behind it on Saturday night. Studley Fish Bar, also in High Street, was egged four times in the same evening. Sector Inspector Emma Walton said residents had been left distressed by the attacks.
