100 Years Ago, December 8, 1906

CHARLES Field, Walter Field, Henry Fox, Ashwell Banner and Jephtha Davenport were five youths all of Bournheath charged with playing a game of chance - pitch and toss in a public footpath leading from Yarnold Lane to Dordale. PC James said he watched the defendants for about a quarter of an hour from a distance of about seven yards. When they saw him they ran away. He had received many complaints of youths breaking into sheds on allotments for the purpose of card playing. Each was fined 1s and 5s costs.  more...

A MUM said someone could be killed unless golf enthusiasts were stopped from practising on a school playing field. Mary Howse, of Harvington Road, Harwood Park, said there had been numerous near misses experienced by her family and neighbours. Golf addicts were using an unfenced playing field at South Bromsgrove High School. A dispute between the district and county council had stopped fencing work until ownership of an extra piece of land affected by the Eastern Bypass excavations was solved.  more...
