Fact

Dragon Boat Racing is good for Breast Cancer sufferer

A couple of years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer and I spent most of 2005 undergoing treatment at WRH. I'm now fully recovered and have recently taken up the sport of dragon boat racing with the Worcester Dragons. I've discovered that in Canada, USA & other countries, dragon boat racing has become a popular sport among breast cancer survivors. There are about 100 breast cancer survivor dragon boat teams world-wide and they recently competed against each other at a special world championships in Singapore. So far there's only one breast cancer dragon boat team in the UK - the Pool of Life from Liverpool. I would like to form a breast cancer survivors dragon boat team in Worcester - could you do a story about the idea in the Worcester News? Teams worldwide have found that the women taking part have gained immeasurable health benefits, not only from the physical exercise but also emotionally from the bond of their shared experiences. I would love to make Worcester the second UK breast cancer survivors dragon boat racing team! And by training together, we can aim for the next world championships which will be held in 2008.  more...
