100 years ago Those who have not yet booked seats for the Malvern Hospital Concert at the Assembly Rooms should do so at as early a date as possible. It had been hoped that Sir Edward and Lady Elgar would have been present, but acting under his doctor's orders, Sir Edward leaves for Italy early in December. He has, I hear, been advised to take a complete rest owing to trouble with his eyes, and has consequenlty had to cancel all immediate engagements. Malvern News, December 1, 1906.  more...

Visitors to the free Worcestershire County Council event will be encouraged to try their hand at flint knapping and discover how early communities made tools from stone. The National Ice Age Network will be displaying prehistoric finds from the Avon Valley, while Earth Heritage Trust experts will answer questions about the geology of the Malvern Hills. THE residents of Danzell Drive - the private track that runs up behind the Village Hall - were busy last weekend preparing for the resurfacing of its lower part, which duly took place on Monday. The track will remain closed until this weekend to allow proper setting of the concrete. Apart from improving access to properties, the work included reinstatement of a drain which should put an end to the former flooding and sheet of ice in frosty weather at the junction with West Malvern Road.  more...
