LOCAL people were responding to the plight of Hungarians over their treatment by the Russians. Councillor LJ Boffey, the chairman of Bromsgrove Rural District Council, was keen to involve the parishes in organising aid. Already there had been offers from residents to take in refugees. In Droitwich the rural authority had offered a home to a Hungarian agricultural family and the former camp at Hampton Lovett was set to be re-opened for refugees fleeing the country.  more...
