Letters

Your porcelain report was just too negative

SIR - I write with disgust regarding your three-page report on Saturday September 30 regarding Royal Worcester. As a frequent customer of Royal Worcester I am aware that the shops, visitor centre and museum are to remain open to visitors for years to come.  more...

Reach for rubber stamps, planners

SIR - If the creation of a plaza and new entrance into the ground at New Road (Worcester News, September 25) means the removal of the unsightly garage and forecourt, then reach for your "rubber stamps" you planners. This has been a blot on the landscape for far too long.  more...

Wrong signals to bomb scare pair

SIR - The Worcester News reported that two persons were given £80 on the spot' fines for admitting they left the parcel that caused the mayhem in Worcester city centre the day before.  more...

Businesses that

SIR - David Birtwhistle recently wrote regarding business concerns leaving the St John's area.  more...

Workshop days

SIR - I did voluntary work at Worcester Arts Workshop (Pryce's People, September 11). The staff were wonderfully informal, they accepted me as a fellow human being. Despite my earlier mental breakdown they helped boost my self-belief no end.  more...

Public kept in dark over halal meat

SIR - I am shocked that the public have been deliberately kept in the dark over the issue of halal meat. Stunning before slaughter is the method approved by Mike Foster's Labour government and also the RSPCA, so why is this not carried out for meat supplied to Worcester schools? In a true democracy the opinion of the majority should be paramount over those of the minority no matter strongly their views are held. Perhaps the saying of Miguel de Cervantes should be heeded: "When thou art at Rome, do as they do at Rome."  more...

A pillar of society

SIR - I refer to the article on the history of the eight HMS Worcester ships (Worcester News, October 6). On HMS Worcester IV it states "Horatio Nelson served on board for six months as an acting fourth lieutenant in 1776 to 1777."  more...

Team effort

History repeated

THE article with regard to the dome at Malvern St James School filled me with very unhappy memories.  more...

A serious issue

ON a number of occasions in recent years the Malvern Spa Association has received worrying reports of "lewd finds" in the vicinity of Eye Well. These apparently have taken the form of explicit drawings and usually ask to meet others who share such fantasies. These letters, carefully wrapped in tin foil to keep them dry, were left in nooks and crannies near the well or nearby seat.  more...

Isn't it amazing?

IN your front page article "Is the fun over" (Malvern Gazette, October 6), my son Somers Park Primary headteacher Stuart Sewell commented that his father had spent time there in the 1930s. It came as a complete surprise to me that closing this superb facility was under consideration.  more...

A rush to judgement

I THINK your editorial on the Malvern Hills Outdoor Centre is something of a rush to judgement. Apart from the funding aspect there has been no real discussion of what the centre offers.  more...

IN respect of your front page and editorial in last week's Gazette, can I explain that while fun' is an integral part of the work carried on at the centre, outdoor education delivered in this award-winning and internationally recognised establishment consists of learning things through carefully structured experiences by highly trained staff in a framework of safety and care.  more...
