Good sports

SPORTY students had the chance to pit themselves against youngsters from other areas for places in a regional sports team.

Children were offered coaching in Sports Hall Athletics, competing in a variety of jumping, throwing and running activities against fellow aspiring sports stars from Hereford, Malvern, Worcester, Wychavon and Wyre Forest at the town hall.

Both Redditch's U13 boys and U15 girls teams won, and 17 children were selected for a regional event due to be held later this month.

They will form part of the regional team to compete against other regions in the Sports Hall Regional Championships.

Vicci Webley, sports development officer, said: "It was fantastic to see so many children participating and competing in various athletic events.

"Hopefully some will now develop athletics further through Bromsgrove and Redditch Athletics Club and the Regional Championships."
