Golden time for Silver Surfers

From the archive, first published Wednesday 25th Jan 2006.

SILVER surfers showed age was no limit when learning new computer skills.

Showing off their new ability to send e-mails and surf the net, 14 older Bidford residents took the chance to learn more about the internet on Friday.

Organised by the Bidford Village Liaison Project and with the help from library staff, the Silver Surfer event was designed to give older people the chance to go on the web.

Project manager Roger Hook said: "It was an excellent session.

"We want to hold regular slots for this event in the future.

"It's designed so people over 50 can learn how to use the internet with confidence."

The project, which began in Nuneaton and Bedworth with some funding from the Government, is now spreading across Warwickshire.

Mr Hook said: "People who attend can learn to send and receive e-mails, surf the internet, access public services on-line and even find out how to get cheap holiday flights."

The sessions will continue on a regular Friday basis from 10-11am at Bidford Library.
