Folly of a single lane

WHAT a bunch of retrogrades at Worcestershire County Council's Highways Partnership. A single lane on a by-pass (Last week's front page)? I doubt if they even live anywhere near Droitwich Spa. They may as well follow the same ideology and make all roads a single lane, including motorways, if you follow their thinking.   more...

Too drastic

I MUST express my dismay at the reported proposal by the Worcestershire County Council highways partnership unit to make permanent the current coned-off single lane of the Worcester carriageway of the Droitwich by-pass.   more...

Reality check

I have watched with some disbelief as the southbound A38 dual carriageway has been coned-off to one lane for the past three months, ostensibly to 'check the road surface'. Has anyone seen anyone doing any 'checking?' All of this follows the two nasty accidents, one fatal, that occurred on the same day last year. Certainly the 'coning' has made that section of the A38 one of the most frightening places to drive along, since the Highways Authority have left the speed-limit at 60mph! Now we are told that they have the solution - the carriageway will shortly become a permanent single-track in the southerly direction, no doubt accompanied by much use of the same red-paint that has transformed the Worcester-to-Kidderminster A449 effectively into a 'B' road. In the past few years we have seen other deaths on this short section of road, including a head-on collision at the South Droitwich roundabout, and a young schoolboy run-over near the 'Homebase' roundabout, both on the northern carriageway. No sign so far of a crash- barrier between the lanes or a pedestrian-proof fence! Surely what is required is better exit marking at the Ombersley turn-off, and a simple, round 50mph speed-limit sign under the bridge. It would be a lot cheaper too.   more...

Town ruined

DOES someone want to turn attractive Droitwich into a copy of thousands of other shopping centres? Who decided to spend taxpayers' money on changing the shopping centre into something nobody wants? Why were we not consulted?   more...
