How you can give a helping hand to city's firefighters

volunteers are wanted to help Worcester's fire service deal with the consequences of floods and fire.

The British Red Cross is launching a Fire and Emergency Support Service based at Worcester fire station and it needs more people to help out.

A team of trained volunteers will come to people's aid during times of crisis such as in the aftermath of a house fire, flood or a similar emergency.

The Red Cross is now looking to recruit volunteers who live within a 30-minute radius of Worcester.

The organisation says anyone looking for a new challenge, who likes meeting new people and who wants to make a difference should get in touch.

Andy Waldie, the group manager for the Hereford and Worcester Fire And Rescue Service, said: "We are delighted with the opportunity to work in partnership with the British Red Cross for the Fire and Emergency Support Service.

"It will provide enhanced care at a time when the victims of emergencies are most in need.

"The impact of emergencies on individuals cannot be overemphasised. Seemingly small incidents can cause major disruption, inconvenience and upset.

"This service will provide care, attention and support to help guide victims through the most difficult time of such incidents, during or immediately after

an emergency."

He said the scheme would complement existing partnerships with other organisations which aim to prevent emergencies occurring.
