Midwives on hand for mums

From the archive, first published Wednesday 18th Jan 2006.

MUMS-to-be in the Alcester area can benefit from a new midwifery service.

Qualified midwives Marie Ashford and Diane Menage have set themselves up to work independently of the NHS to care for new and expecting mums.

The pair, who have been qualified for five and three years respectively, provide care and support from the start of pregnancy through to antenatal care, are able to organise any scans and tests needed and have already had interest from a number of expectant mums.

"We are delighted we have already had quite a bit of interest," said Diane.

"Many women just do not know it is possible to get an independent midwife.

"We are particularly keen to support women who want to plan a home birth and will be setting up a home birth support group soon."
