THE September meeting of Ipsley WI proved to be a very enjoyable occasion in celebration of 90 years of the WI in the UK.
Many members wore their best hats and cakes were provided by the committee to accompany bucks fizz with which a toast was made by the president to "the best organisation ever for women".
A 90th anniversary cake was made and presented by Lesley Ford.
The previous meeting had been an outing to the newly refurbished County Museum at Hartlebury Castle on a beautiful summer evening.
During the month there had been a most enjoyable ramble around Alcester and Oversley Green area followed by a fish and chip supper, organised by Gerda and Brian Michie.
Some members had joined Crabbs Cross and Hunt End WI on a visit to Highgrove and 10 members had been to the county anniversary celebration, a hats and pearls tea party, with entertainment by the Performing Arts Group, at Hanley Swan village hall.
Members were reminded of the forthcoming group meeting at Stoke Prior on October 20 and of the autumn council meeting on Oct-ober 25 in Stourport.
There was to be the London coach outing in October and it was hoped to arrange a trip to Kew Gardens in spring.
The speaker for the evening was Mary Smith, of Great Alne, who gave a light hearted insight into the origins of the signs of the zodiac with her talk "Myths of the Zodiac".
The monthly competition for "Your sign of the Zodiac in any Medium" was won by Janet Cottrill, with Jill Gallagher second.
There was a three-way tie for the flower of the month between Shirley Smith, Mavis Walthew and Judith Scott.
The next meeting will be the Annual Meeting at 7.30pm on Wednesday, October 12 at Woodfield Middle School.
The competition will be a sponge cake - to be eaten at the meeting.
