ONE of the region's leading social housing specialists is celebrating its most successful year.

Elgar Housing Association, which manages about 5,000 homes throughout Worcestershire and Herefordshire, has just completed its 11th year in business.

"This has been our best year ever - another 12 months of continuous improvement, which has benefited our residents," said Jonathan Slade, chairman of the Malvern-based association. "At the association's annual meeting it was revealed that in the year to March 2005 about £6.5m had been spent on improving and maintaining tenants' homes.

"This work included replacing hundreds of kitchens and bathrooms and installing new windows and central heating systems.

"More than 100 new homes for shared ownership and rent to local people in need have been provided."
