Anyone out and about in West Malvern in the past week can hardly have failed to notice the prominent posters advertising the West Malvern Festival, to be held on the Playing Fields on Monday next, August Bank Holiday. But for anyone who has missed them, here are the main details. There will be a car boot sale on the upper field at the earlier time of 9am, finishing at noon, to make way for the festival proper, which will start on the lower field at 1pm. No fewer than 14 live bands will be providing different styles of music right through until 6pm, while in the evening a 16-piece swing band will play music of the wartime years for dancing, as a reminder of the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II. Food and drink will be available from noon, with teas in the marquee in the afternoon and a pig roast in the evening. There will be numerous fun activities for the children, including at 3.30pm a real Punch and Judy Show by Professor Guy Higgins. There will be stalls, a tombola and a raffle with excellent prizes. Admission to the event will be by purchase of a wristband for £1 per person and lucky programmes giving a chance of winning any of up to 250 prizes will be on sale at £2.50. Offers of help with stewarding would still be appreciated - contact Richard Penhaligon on 01584 819906.   more...
