Sammy Jo seeing stars in her eyes

A TEENAGER from Kidderminster is a step closer to achieving her dream of becoming a West End star after wowing judges to achieve a musical theatre scholarship worth more than £25,000.

Former Stourport carnival queen, Sammy Jo Hall, from Spennells, has had stars in her eyes since the age of five and is no stranger to the stage or small screen.

The 18-year-old, who danced in front of the Earl of Wessex when he visited Kidderminster College in February, has starred in several Kidderminster College productions, as well as on the children's television show, Brum, and a commercial for West Midland Safari Park.

She is now looking forward to working with top West End choreographers and receiving one-on-one singing lessons after achieving a place on a three-year national diploma in musical theatre at Liverpool Theatre School, which starts in September.

"I'm studying a three-year musical theatre course consisting of dancing, singing and acting - the lot basically - because I don't just want to work in one area but to do it all," she said.

"I've been performing since I was five and I've got my heart set on performing in the West End because I just love singing and dancing in front of an audience - it's just the best feeling ever and one you can't really describe."

Adding she was offered her scholarship the day after her audition, the former Haybridge High School student went on: "They must have got the letter off in the post when I was still there because I opened it the next morning - so that was really cool and I really wasn't expecting it."

She added: "I auditioned for quite a few places in London and Leeds and got places but they were all very big schools and Liverpool seemed to be more of a friendly atmosphere and because it's smaller you get more attention - I can't wait."
