Artist Gerald shares love of locomotives

A PROMINENT railway artist is sharing his love of trains with visitors to Severn Valley Railway this summer.

Artist and SVR volunteer, Gerald Broom, is exhibiting around 60 of his original paintings at Kidderminster Railway Museum until Sunday, August 8 and will be on hand every day to discuss his love of locomotives with art lovers.

Museum curator, David Postle, said he was delighted the Walsall-based painter, who is also a member of the Guild of Railway Artists and specialises in early railway periods - in particular the London and North Western Railway - was displaying his work in Kidderminster.

"He's a very prominent railway artist and one of the top three or four in the country in that field," Mr Postle said.

"He also paints landscapes and we really like to have additional attractions for our visitors and this was an idea he put forward which we agreed to."

He added Mr Broom's paintings had previously adorned the museum in biannual exhibitions of the Guild of Railway Artists.

"We have another coming up at the end of August, which will feature one or two pieces of Gerald's work, but there will be around 90 paintings of between 12 and 15 different artists."

He went on: "The relationship between Gerald and ourselves has grown out of the guild and now he also comes in his spare time to do volunteer work for us."

More information on the free exhibition, which is open daily from 10am until 5pm, can be obtained by calling 01562 825316.
