Coup as jazz band swings in

From the archive, first published Thursday 29th Jul 2004.

ONE of the country's top young jazz bands - which has performed all over the world and is eight times winner of the BBC's prestigious national big band competition - is due to swing into Wyre Forest.

Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra is performing at Stourport Civic Centre on Saturday, August 7, in a concert organised by Wyre Forest Tourism and Leisure Network.

District council events officer, Sue Harper, said: "It's quite a coup to have them in the district because they're a very, very good band.

"They've performed at places like the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and Disneyland in Europe and with people like John Dankworth and Jools Holland."

More information and tickets for the concert, which starts at 8pm, can be obtained by calling Ms Harper on 01562 732979.
