Pantomime will be cracking fun

A STOURPORT drama group which has raised more than £200,000 for charity is offering Wyre Forest organisations a cut of the cash generated by their latest production.

The Monday Night Group is staging Humpty Dumpty at Stourport Civic Centre tomorrow until Saturday, January 31 and will donate all the profits to Worcestershire groups and charities.

Group secretary Cathy Carrier said the kind-hearted actors hoped its 38th annual pantomime would beat the fundraising success of last year's Dick Whittington - which raised more than £16,000 for 91 organisations including Kemp Hospice and Wyre Forest Stroke Club.

"Humpty Dumpty is set in the country of Egglantia where an egg sits on a wall and when it's there everything is okay - and it's a story of what happens when the egg falls off," said Mrs Carrier, who plays Egglantia woman Kylie.

She went on: "We do just one panto a year and all the money raised goes to local groups and charities as long as they run themselves and are Worcestershire-based.

"We play to about 4,500 people over the 12 performances and have sold out in the past. We're hoping to do the same this year because the more seats we can fill, the more we can give back to the community and that's what the group is all about."

She added members of the group write all their own scripts, as well as making their own costumes and props and would distribute the cash raised by this year's show at their annual presentation evening in May.

Organisations wishing to obtain funding should contact Mrs Carrier on 01905 617326.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday, March 31.
