EVIL DEAD

Cast your mind back about twenty years. It was an era where zombie films were huge, the two most successful being George A. Romero's trilogy of the dead and Sam Raimi's Evil Dead. The fundamental difference between the two was the approach, whilst Romero opted for a serious zombie film, Raimi was much more tongue in cheek. Resident Evil was influenced by the trilogy of the dead whilst Evil Dead appeared on the PSONE. Now Evil Dead returns to the gaming world once more in the form of Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick. The game stars Bruce Campbell as Ash contains an array of weapons and is one of the goriest games to grace any console. After the limited success of the first title it will be interesting to see Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick can succeed where the original did not.   more...

INNER WHEEL CLUB: The club has had a busy and enjoyable year under president Cicely Harris. The main-fund raising had been for the Acorns Children's Hospice in Worcester. At the final meeting of her year as president a cheque will be presented to the hospice. The £900 was raised at various events including charity lunch held in a member's home, and a Pate and Pudding supper held in Eckington Village Hall. At the meeting she will also hand over the chain of office to the incoming president Nicky Clark.   more...

ROSE SHOW: The gardeners of Inkberrow Horticultural Society did well to produce a wonderful display of blooms at their annual Rose Show at the Village Hall. The day before had been one of strong winds which battered the flowers. They were complimented on their efforts by the judge, Mr Dennis Pugh of Solihull, a judge at both Salisbury and Birmingham Flower Shows, who remarked that it had been a difficult year with the roses being over quickly and he was impressed by the quality of the blooms and the good range of the other entries. Both the number of exhibitors and exhibits were up this year, a most encouraging sign and welcomed by chairman Mr Tom Hodgkinson who thanked all who had worked to make the show a success. Visitors were treated to a superb plant sale organised by members together with a raffle and refreshments.   more...

PRE-SCHOOL: The sports day was held in Sue Johnson's garden recently during this spell of lovely weather and a good time was had by all. Everybody enjoyed a picnic lunch and this was followed in due course by races in which all the children were winners and were presented with medals. BAPTIST CHAPEL: Held its first flower festival last weekend as part of the 157th anniversary celebrations. The chapel was open all day on Saturday and Sunday morning. Many visitors travelled the country lanes to find the tiny chapel (said to be the smallest in the Midlands) and enjoyed the scents and sights inside and out. The theme of the festival was the I AM sayings of Jesus, and each flower arrangement symbolically represented a text.   more...
