Her golf was an inspiration

MARIAN Carr, the Secretary of the English Ladies' gold Association for 13 years, died peacefully at her home in Birmingham on October 17 after a brave fight against cancer.

Marian was a member of the Worcestershire Golf Club from 1963 until 1985, when she left to take up a post with the LGU at St Andrews.

From a golfing family, she was a fine single figure player and was one of the first lady golfers from the Worcestershire to play for the County since the 1920's.

During her time at Malvern she was Lady Captain in 1976 and 1977 and Captain of the Worcestershire Ladies' Golf Association in the 80's. As well as being a stalwart of the County first team, she was also Worcestershire County Champion and Midland Ladies' Champion.

At the time of her death she was Lady Captain of Royal St David's, Harlech, a club with which she and her family had been associated for many years.

Her excellent golf and her conduct on and off the course made her a fine ambassador for the Club and an inspiration to the young golfers at the time of her membership there.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12 noon on November 29 at St Bartholomew's Church, Edgbaston.
